One of the stressors in our life happens to be how we communicate with one another. Any of you have teenagers? (I know you are laughing right now). Most of us think we communicate very well. Those of us who are parents especially think this. Many times however, we ourselves fall short in communication effectively.
A secret of happiness is …having good communication skills and to teach them early to your children. When children see you model what is expected they will become good communicators as well.
Here are some tips for good communication:
* explain exactly what you mean
* describe in detail what is expected
* ask for help immediately when needed
* ask questions
* don’t assume
* repeat what you say
* ask for verification of what was communicated
Things will run smoothly when there is less stress and everyone involved is aware of the expectations. Start the new day with an awareness of the possibility of good communcation skills for everyone.
Who knows, your teenager may surprise you!
